Goodbye 2014

This is my final blog post of the year 2014. I would like to wish my blog readers a very merry christmas and a very happy new year.To my teachers  Mr Somerville, Mr Goodwin, Mrs Jacobsen and Mrs Garden I would like to give a massive thanks for teaching me how to be an awesome learner. Have an awesome end of the year. To all  my blog followers I hope you still leave and comments and keep in touch next year. Goodbye 2014 !

Camp Bentzon recount with rubric

This is a recount about when I went to Kawau Island (Camp Bentzon).

Tuesday morning the year 6 children from Pt England School hopped onto the ferry on there way to Camp Bentzon (Kawau Island).

We were split up into 8 groups, Bentzon A-B, Mansion A-B, Kawau A-B and Katz A-B.I was in Mansion. It was really fun working with my team especially in Abseiling. They were very good at supporting each other. I was so lucky to be in Mansion A.

My favourite activity was Abseiling. Just so you know it is NOT sailing in a boat. It is like rock climbing. What we had to do is climb up on the side and then come down the middle. It was very scary looking down. But I had to challenge myself to get down the bottom and thats what I did. I started off slowly coming down in the middle but when I reached half way I started to move faster and finally I reached the bottom! It was really challenging but I am happy I challenged myself. I really want to go back.

When Pt England School go camp we have a tradition that we have to perform an Item we made up. We have 2 judges Mr J and Mrs Garden. Every group did well and amazed the judges. In 4th place was Katz, In 3rd was Kawau, In 2nd was Mansion (my group) and in 1st was Bentzon !

Overall it was an awesome experience and my favourite part of the camp was spending time with my friends and getting to know them more and more. I would recommend this camp to the year 5’s because they will find it interesting.

We have been studying Kawau Island because tomorrow we are headed for Kawau
Island for our camp. We had to study to learn more about where we are going and what
we are going to do their.

Sock puppets

W.A.L.T. : Using clues in text, along with prior knowledge to help understanding of specific vocabulary and comprehension.

Sock puppets are really fun to make. What you need to make a sock puppet is at least one sock that can fit your hand inside and can cover half of your hand, string, 2 googly eyes and a glue gun. Make sure you put them all in a shoe box and write your name. Then use a glue gun to glue the 2 googly eyes to the top bit where you put your toes in the sock and glue it on to there. Then use the glue gun again to glue on strips of strings on top of the googly eyes for the hair. Then you can add any other accessories to it to make it look stunning and there you go your very own sock puppet.

W.A.L.T explain to your reader what being a good friend means

Do you know what a good friend is ? Then I am here to tell you how to be a good friend or how to improve on being a good friend.

A good friend is a person that doesn't judge the way you look, your religion or even the colour of your skin. They make you feel welcoming and loved. A world without friends wouldn’t be nice. So that’s why you should take the opportunity to have friends. Friends can be the one to cheer you up or the shoulder you cry on or even share your problems with. Friend should be loyalty and always be there for you.

They may be some time where your friend is feeling sad or disappointed that’s when your side of a good friend is shown. Most people find it hard to be a good friend and that’s true. It hard to be a good friend because sometime your most reliable friend has done something bad you should always have time to think and then tell them what you think. Sometimes both of you feel sad because you disagreed on something. That’s when you have to be the older person and apologize first to make things right.  Never think that you’re always the reason why both of you argue because that puts you down to make you think that you’re not a good friend. In life there are always going to be mistakes and thats why not one friendship in this world is perfect.

Most of the people I know pretend to be someone they are not just to make their friends happy or just to fit in with the crowd. That’s not being a good friend to yourself. I would say the first friendship you should have is a friendship with yourself. Why should you have other friends when you can’t even make friends with yourself. That’s the one friendship you will ALWAYS have. If you want or improve on being a good friend is first to be friends with yourself.

Remember a world without friends is no use so take the opportunity to have friends!

Capitals

Capitals - what are they and when do you use them in writing?

WALT: Write an explanation telling people what capital letters are and when you use them in writing.

Do you know what a capital letter is ? A capital letter is  well known as a upper case letter for it’s size. Capital letters comes in different shapes as well. Sometimes when you write a capital letter it’s not the same shape as the lower case letter (the smaller letters) for example the capital Q is not the same shape as the smaller q.  When writing a capital letter it always has to reach the top of the line.  

Capital letters are used for different kind of things like names of geographical places. Geographical places are places like  countries around the world and the cities in the country. It can also be use for places like McDonald's and fish and chips stores.   

Dates. Us human beings use capitals for dates like months and days of the week. We use them because it doesn't look tidy when writing it .

In titles are capital letters. Titles are things like movies, games, shops and more. All of them have capitals. For example when buying Black ops 2 on the cover it has a capital at the beginning of the title. If you go to the shop the logo of the store has a capital.   

We use Capitals after a full stop to start a new sentence. For me it helps me to see where an new sentence it because I can’t really see the full stops. So it really helps me. It also marks where a new sentence begins. Some people forget but the way I remember to put a capital is to re read it.

Conclusion: We should always use capitals to make sense when writing or speaking.

Elections Day

Not long ago was elections day. Election day is a day when people vote if they want to change the prime minister or not. Election day only comes every 3 years. This year is an  election year when people vote. My Parents voted for Labour. The most common parties are labour and national. This year the leader of National is our very own prime minister John Key and the leader of Labour is David Cunliffe. There were 7 parties that participated in they elections. When everyone voted (the whole of  New Zealand ) the winner was NATIONAL !!! That was very exciting news !! Hopefully Labour will win next time !!

Lead : Instead of using heaps of paper Year one students at Pt England School are using tablets for their learning.

Para One - Why Tablets ?

Juniors at Pt England have tablets because it helps expand the learning more. Mrs Garden said  She thinks that “it makes their learning faster on their tablets and paper and pencil is only one way to write.”

Mrs George, another Teacher, says “children think it’s better than Ipads and Its the right size for them instead of buying heaps of stationery”. Also Kahurangi and Oalii, the kids I interviewed  said “I love it !”

Para Two - How many classes use the idea of tablets.

Three of the Junior classes are trialing using their own tablets as their learning tool. Their Teachers say that it is really helping with their reading, writing as well as their speaking.

Para Three - Do they pay for it ?

The reason why they have tablets is because the are trialing and who knows they may have all the junior kids using a tablet of their own ! Also what's cool about it is that they don’t pay for it because it is a trial.

Conclusion

Ariana, one of a students in Pt England School, thinks it is an awesome idea for year one kids to be using tablets because it’s a fun way to express their learning online.

A new style for the seniors.By Marilyn.SPt England school.
Lead - Year 6 students at Pt England School are soon going to be upgrading to jackets that are nearly $60.
The year 6 Children at Pt England School are so excited to be upgradingtheir uniform from a plain red jumper with  a school logo to a fancy black and red zip up jacket with also a school logo.

Do you think the year 7 and 8’s can afford a $55 Jacket. 98% of children bought  the option of jackets. It is only $1 cheaper than the culottes.   
It was designed when Point England School was getting intermediates.  2 to 3 children bring samples of what they wanted it to look like. They knew the colours they had to stick with was Black and red. They  looked at the samples with different groups of kids which was mostly the prefects. Then it was finally decided.


It was decided sometime ago when they were turning into an intermediate school. They asked the children if they wanted to change their uniform the first option was black culottes and the second was jackets. They all agreed and jackets and culottes was now part of their uniform. Also the reason why it was to distinguish the senior children from everybody else .

Narrative Writing

"Tell me NOW ! " Mr Martin screams. Mr Martin is well known as the Grumpiest teacher in school. My friends say he is like someone who's heads going to explode. I'm Tiksha and I am really bad at school. I like to wear dark things. I love to join into wrong things and life is boring. Mr Martin is my Detention teacher. He is screaming at me to tell him why I'm on detention for the whole week. He says that I'm a waste of time. Also I'm 16. My life as a dark girl all started when I was 5. I was never at home because I ran away. I ran away every time mum and dad argued. I really don't remember what happened that much because it was a long time ago. When I turned 7 things became worse. My Parents both died. They were on their way to the bank to pay the bills when dad reached down for his coke drink. He got the drink and then Mum screamed they were heading for the sea. But too late the car started to sink. I only found out 6 hours later at my uncles house. The Police said that they found the car but both my parents died. They were in the water for 5 hours until someone saw my dad's body floating up.

When I heard this I thought my life was over. I didn't know what to do. I moved in with my Grandma and I was so depressed. My Parents didn't have a funeral because they weren't really known so me and my grandpa buried them in the back yard. I always felt alone and I loved it when I was in the dark. Thats when I decided to were black and become a Goth.

It all started when Britain ruled all the countries in the commonwealth games.

They were ruled

by britain for a very long time until 1931 when they became independent. Then they decided to join a club called The commonwealth of Nations

Why are some countries in the world part of the Commonwealth?

Because they were all looked after by the Queen and britain.

What is special about the Commonwealth games?

Anybody can join.

How many years ago was the first games, how often are they?

It all began 84 years ago and they only come every 4th year.

Why are they called the ‘Friendly games?

Because sport is a good way to show friendship to each other and friendship

is important to the commonwealth games.

Did you know that I am 1 of the lucky 7 Ambassadors. It is an awesome privilege to be one. What an Ambassador is is someone who speaks on someone or something's behalf. We are speaking to people on behalf of our school (Pt England school) which is really cool ! We speak about the olden days and how Point England school started and how we get to do our work online ! Superhero Writing.

Start writing here: “Braxton wake up” shouted his younger brother Tim. They were leaving to America for the holidays. There mum thought that its time to get out of Australia and go to America. Braxton the eldest is 18. He is the kinds that are quiet and has a hood over there head. They little brother Tim is 7. He is a joyful little boy but there is a big secret that he doesn't know about his older brother. He is a superhero. His name is Blue Howler. He saves millions of lives that are at risk. For example a villain kidnaps a kid. He is the Hero. He is not much known in the town.  Leaving in the car on the way to the airport he see’s by a blink of an eye a kid just got taken. He jumps out of the car on to the pathway. His mother screams and pulls the brakes. Her eyes are furious and looks at Braxton. Get in the car right now she screams from the top of her lungs but he keeps on running. He gets closer to the kid but he see’s that the kidnapper is a woman. Hearing his mother still screaming he knows how much trouble he has caused. The little kid’s mother calls the police and starts to cry. He reaches the kid’s arm and pulls him. He know has the kid in his arm. The lady turns around with a mask.

“Hello Blue Howler it looks like you've got me” she says with an angry tone. He stays quiet and wonders how does she know my name.  I have been waiting for you. Suddenly she disappeared ! He turns around and see’s his mum with the reddest face. His ear is pulled to the car ashamedly. He is disappointed but happy that he is a hero.

Test's have began !

The tests have arrived. I am up next for my test and I would say that I am pretty excited for it. In our classes we have 2 tests. Literacy and Maths. My first test is Maths. I love Maths and It is my Favourite subject because you can come up with heaps of cool strategies

and learn things quickly. So I hope you all the best on your test !

Here are facts I have learnt about the Hawaiian canoe !

On the Tragic Titanic with my 6 year old niece.

“uhhh” I say with relief getting into the spa pool. I was so exhausted from taking Sophie (My 6 year old niece) to the play centre which was 5 hallways far. Trust me the hallways are long but now Sophie is fast asleep on my bed because she is also exhausted. The hallways were very bright because of the lights and the smell of cocktail sausages filled the air. Looking around I saw heaps of people in the the room next to me which was front of the titanic (the bow). There was hundreds of people also sad to look back because it reminded them of their family left behind. It now has been 5 days aboard on the Titanic. I am on the boat because I am going to visit my family members in Ireland. Also I have my little niece with me aswell. She came because she is going to visit her parents there in Ireland.

Being in the spa pool now for 20 minutes I think it’s time to check on Sophie. Reaching for my towel I hop out of the pool and wrap it around my waist. I walk carefully past the rooms down the hallway and finally reach my room. I open the door slowly and find her fast asleep. I sigh with relief that she is fine. Getting out of the room I close the door and get changed into my night gown. I then hop into my bed and fell fast asleep next to my niece. 6 hours later I could feel cool water rushing up my spine. Is it me dreaming or is this true I say in my head while sleeping.

I thought this was a dream so I slept for another 2 minutes. 2 minutes later I hear the cry of my niece. So I woke up and find out the water is up to my hips. I quickly rush out of the room and hear the cries of the people. “Ahhh” Sophie screams ! I see a crew member and I quickly rush to him ask “What is happening” But he just keep on trying to calm the passengers.

I then see my friend Ariana and she asked me “what is happening”?? I replied back “The Titanic is sinking and we all need to get on a lifeboat” So  me and Sophie followed Ariana to the dog pound where she kept her dog Coco and quickly got him. Together we run aboard on the lifeboat and quickly sail. I look at the other life boat It was filled with the animals that were aboard. Suddenly I find that my 6 year old niece is missing. I look back and she is frozen in the water ! That was the last I ever saw of her. I had a broken heart and I decided to fall into the water and I did. Then I freeze to death just as Sophie did.

My weekly sports player.

Now on my blog I am making posts about weekly sport's players every week. Today my sport player is Lisa carrington.

Lisa carrington is well known as the New zealand girl who won the gold medal for kayaking in the olympics. Also she is very inspirational and has lots of strength to kayak. She is very strong and sporty.

This term the Ika group are learning about boats. All different kind of boats. The two I have chosen is the Motor boat and Canoe. I chose to do small boats because they are easy to find out about. Our task was to complete this article and to try and sell it to you. Hope you enjoy.

Pt England boats sales

Basket Boat by: Marilyn The cost of this  is 780 dollars. The reason why it is 780 dollars is because it’s very comfortable and the material made out of it is basaltic stone. Another extra bonus is  you get 4 extra paddles.     Motor boat.

780 dollars Motor boat This boat is used for all sorts of traveling or for a vacation break. It also has another name. The name is the power boat. It is very relaxing and trust me you will enjoy it ! It’s also used for activities like fishing, duck hunting, swimming etc ...  Also the price is 1000 dollars ! It is really expensive. .

Life boats are fast. There fastest speed is 58 knots ! It’s perfect a  beak off or to impress someone.

The Nightmare !!!

(Last night)

My name is Jasmine I am 14 yrs old. This is my scary nightmare.

I was walking home so exhausted after my first netball game. I was  so sweaty and forgot to put on my deodorant. I smelt worse than a Skunk, well not too bad. I got home and it was dark as always. I looked at the clock it was 5:27 pm. Mum and dad were at work. “Uhh” I sighed I am so tired. I dropped everything and ran upstairs and fell into bed and was straight asleep. My own bed was messy I never really cleaned it so it smelt like the dumb.

(Sleeping)

It was 3:00 am in the morning now. I was awoken by a nightmare. I woke up crying with my body still half asleep. It was the worst nightmare I have  ever had ! The nightmare began all last night.

I fell on my bed so exhausted that I went straight to sleep. Then 2 minutes later I saw a lady appear in my head while I was asleep. She looked very old. I was scared and even though I was asleep my heart was pumping so fast ! Her skin was very pale and had a torn white dress. She started speaking in a very squeaky voice “I am a ghost I died 2 months ago in this house and I hate how you’you've changed it !” I was terrified. I  was too tired to talk but I staring at her ! It was quiet.

I looked around in my nightmare and it looked just like the  living room when we moved in and when I look back she disappeared but I was still stuck in this nightmare ! She came back with a paper which said Sorry to scare you in your dreams but my husband died in the living room and I wanted it to stay the same. I then asked in my head “How come you are a ghost?” Then she spoke and said “I died 1 week after my husband did because I couldn’t live without him” So that’s why I am a ghost.

Look around it looks just like the old living room. This is how I wanted it to stay. Then I asked her “How did he die?” She said with a frown “He died on the couch because he was very sick and the ambulance was too late he was dead” “So what do you want me to do?” I asked  “I want you to give me the couch” She said so furiously “How can I do that?” I replied Then she gave me a paper. It said get the couch from you garage and put it out in the front yard with this paper at 2:00 pm.

Then I came out of the dream. Waking up with the paper in my hands I was terrified ! The next day I did what she said and I never saw her again !

I love Maths !

I enjoy doing maths because of the different ranges of strategy on how to solve a problem. What else is awesome is that we have to amazing websites we use. 1 is Xtra Maths and the second one is Math whizz. Xtra Maths gives you questions starting from addition. For example 0 + 1 all the way to the 9's area. The when it's all green you get to move on to subtraction etc ... Math whizz is a education about maths. You can have buddies and try to beat them on the improvement. How to get improvement is by doing lessons. It gives you lessons you need to work on and if you do it well you get a test you try to pass. It's really fun and that's why I love maths.

A day at Parakai Pools.

“Yay let’s begin an awesome day at parakai pools"  I said to Ashley with excitement. Ashley replied back and said “But you know what's not exciting is that it takes 1 hour to get to Paraki” I moaned “why it’s going to be very boring on the bus you know” So then she said “yes I know”. Just in time the bus arrived and we were ready to go ! The school holiday program team hopped onto the bus. Me and ashley sat next to each other and started talking about school

“Ashley are you excited to start school after 2 weeks”? She groaned and said “No I am going to miss the holidays” But then I said “At least you get to see your friends again”  “ I know but I’m tired of talking I went to bed late last night” So then we just sat quietly in the bus for 1 hour !Looking outside the window for 1 hour and day dreaming of what it would look like at Paraki. I imagined that Paraki would have slides and a massive pool just like YMCA. To cut the story short we’ll skip the 1 hour bus drive.

Finally arriving in the carpark of Paraki Pools we all went out and stretched. We walked with excitement  and discovered the beautiful paraki. I was so amazed. There was a big bombing pool outside, 2 awesome slides and a hot spa pool inside ! I wanted to go on the slide straight away ! So then our supervisors said go and enjoy Paraki. I ran to the slides as fast as I can. I got up to the top and took a breath. “uhh I am so tired” It felt very hot inside the slide.

I finally calmed down and went into the slide “ Yay” I shouted as I was going down the slide. It was very fast. I was having so much fun than ever !   I got to the end of the slide and made a big splash. I really wanted to go again. So I went about 24 times until it was lunch time. I was tired now so I had to have a break. Eating my lunch thinking of how hot it would be in the spa pool. I was so eager to know I just had to go in it. So after lunch I went inside and went it the spa pool. “It’s burning my legs it hurts” I said I just wanted to get out so I ran and jumped into the bombing pool. “uhh much better” My legs cooled down and I decided to spend my last 20 minutes on the slide.

Walking over to the slide my sister asked me come and join us were making a long line with Dlyz (one of our supervisors) “Hurray” I said going down the slide with the school holiday team. Enjoying the slides 15 times it was time to leave. It was so sad to leave the Pools. Our bus arrived and 1 hour back home !

Immersion Assembly.

Today is the start of Term 2 and everyone is back at school. Every term we get a new topic to learn about and this term our topic is I like to move it move it. We also have performances from each team about what they are going to learn. The one i'm going to talk about is Team 1.

Team 1 are learning about animal equipment that compare to the equipment they have at school or at home . They had a short snipclip about their learning. The Team 1 teachers even went to the zoo to film. They showed all kinds of different animals like Giraffes, Lions, Zebras and their habitats. There was even a short film of a giraffe coming out of a box because it was transported.  Did you know tomorrow they are going to Auckland zoo  to learn more. That’s so exciting for the second day of school. !
